Once you've found the home of your dreams and decided to place your
current residence on the market, it's hard to look back. You want to
spend all your emotional and financial assets on your new home.
So, what can you do to get your current home sold
without spending all your friendly cash? First, get some expert input
from your real estate professional. Find out what counts most when it
comes to making your home saleable. You may be surprised at how much
you'll get back with very little expenditure.
It cannot be said enough that your home needs to be
clutter free and as neutral as possible. You are not going for a
magazine cover. You are creating spaces that any home buyer could
envision as their own. It's time to make a clean sweep.
Start with the outside. Make sure the landscaping is
well tended and that your home's exterior is sparkling clean. First
impressions do count and never more so than when someone is driving by
for a quick look. Remember that buyers have limited time, so if your
home's curb appeal has something missing, you'll never get them
inside.
Small changes can have a big impact. Paint is your best
friend, especially when you choose neutral colors. It makes everything
appear fresh. Dark wood cabinets and even paneling can be painted in
light colors to brighten your home's appearance.
If your kitchen hasn't been updated, don't despair. A
few cosmetic touches may be all that's needed. A new floor in laminate
or peel-and-stick along with new pulls on the drawers and cabinets can
add appeal. If you want to go for the retro look, hang curtains that
recall the charm of yesteryear. Set the table for casual dining, right
down to the cloth napkins and use a bowl of fruit as a centerpiece.
Use the same technique for the
bath. Send a message of comfort and luxury with new fluffy towels, a
new rug on the floor and a small perfume bottle with a single flower.
And remember that whatever it takes, your home should shine.
