Painting Tips
Whether you're sprucing up your home
in preparation for a sale or just want to freshen rooms for your own
enjoyment, paint is the quickest, least expensive and best way to
accomplish your goal. If you decide to tackle the project yourself,
here are a few handy tips to make it all a little easier.
Soften hard paint brushes by putting them in hot vinegar for a few
minutes. An old comb can be used to comb the bristles and remove the
softened paint. Once finished, wash the brush in warm water and soap
and let it dry.
Always stir your paint thoroughly, even if you've had it mixed at
the store. Paint that appears lumpy or has some debris can be
salvaged by putting a pair of panty hose over the can and straining
into a second container.
Don't forget to clean the surfaces and use stain blocker or primer.
Rollers will cover a large surface faster, but you'll need to 'cut
in' around edges and corners first. Painter's tape and a good brush
will make that part go much faster.
Once the job is finished, store partially full cans of paint, upside
down. The paint will form an airtight seal, extending its useful
life. Don't forget to label the cans with the color, date and the
room it was used in.
